Camp Tomahawk

Tomahawk Scout Reservation is located in Birtchwood, WI located 20 miles North of Rice Lake, WI. Tomahawk was established in 1953, and since then has grown to include three separate Boy Scout camps, Sioux, Chippewa, and White Pine, and a second year Webelos camp, Navajo. It is located on 3,000 acres of land and has over 15 miles of shoreline on Long Lake.

Cost of Camp The cost of camp includes: Picnic tables, Bear-proof storage, Troop latrine and water supply, Maintenance and utilities, 3 meals a day, Services of the program, medical, and administrative staff. The following are new charges in 2023:

Two person canvas wall tents - $8 per tent ($4 per scout)

1 cot - $3

Canvas tarp - $4

Cost of Camp Each meal costs $7.22 for a total of $131 for the week. Adults staying part of the week and eating at camp will be charged by the number of meals they eat at camp.

Late Fee (Tomahawk) A late fee will be added for those who register after mid-April, set by Northern Star Council

Financial Aid Financial assistance to help cover the cost of camp is available through Northern Star Council's Campership Program. To learn more and fill out an application visit

Troop Activities At 11am, 3:30pm, and 4:30pm troops have scheduled time to spend doing some activity as a troop. Activities include: Shotgun Shooting, Rifle Shooting, Conservation Project, Climbing Tower, Horseback Ride, Troop Canoe, Tomahawk Throwing, Logging Camp Outpost, Golf Driving Range, Archery, Geocaching, Fire Tower, Big Boat Sail (22 ft. sailboat), Troop Sauna, Visit the Bison During this time the following areas are also open to all scouts: Swimming, Boating & Sailing. Scoutcraft, Trading Post, Disk Golf, Driving Range, Bison Tours, Fire Tower

Open Program Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights all of the program areas are open which include: Swimming, Boating & Sailing, Rifle Shooting, Shotgun Shooting, Archery, Handicraft, Climbing Tower, Ecology, Trading Post, Scoutcraft, Disk Golf, Driving Range, Bison Tours, Fire Tower,etc

Court of Honor

Camp Videos

Location Our Friday night Court of Honor Ceremony is held at our campsite (Comanche) located within Chippewa sub-camp. The event begins at 7 PM, and ends around 8:30 PM with skits by scouts to follow lasting until 9 or 9:30 PM.

Ceremony Description The ceremony is where scouts are presented with Merit Badges and Rank Advancements earned while attending camp and since the March Court of Honor. The ceremony also includes a summary of the week at camp and occasionally features pictures and videos from the week at camp. Finally, the scouts create "Comanche Awards" for one another with clever titles that relate to how a scout was at camp/things a scout did at camp that helped to make camp memorable. All parents and family members and guests are welcome to attend.

Dragon Fire It is troop tradition that the Friday Campfire/Court of Honor Ceremony feature a "dragon fire". The dragon fire is a hollowed out log, usually stuffed with birch bark to make it ignite easily and smoke well. When built properly, the hole at the top of the log will shoot out smoke and flames like a dragon.
